My Favorite Things 2020

Last month, I asked readers to write in and share their favorite items they have found through my recommendations. I wanted to also share my favorite things of 2020 in a roundup. We all know we spent a LOT of time at home. When I look back at this post in a few years, I will remember the things that got me through 2020.

This list is in no particular order. I don’t think I could put one thing at the top.

Madame de la Maison plates.

I use these every single day and they make me SO happy. Ajiri wrote a blog post a while back encouraging people to use “the good plates” every day. I took this to heart and this has made me smile. Even the boring meals have had some life to them.

Lou and Grey Sweatshirt and Sweatpants.

I grabbed this more than anything else in my closet. It is SO soft and worth the splurge. They have sales from time to time. I gifted them to both my sister and my friend Katie this year.

Sisley Tuberose Candle.

This year was the year of the candle for me. I burnt more candles at home than ever before. The mentality of saving the nice candle for special occasions went out the window. Every night of 2020, was a reason to burn a candle. Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere explained it best, it was a good way to make the transition from day to night when you stay at home. Diptyque is one of my favorites for candles. The one that stood out for me and helped me through 2020 was this Tuberose one from Sisley. It was sent as a gift maybe three years ago and I never wanted to burn it. Now, every time I do yoga and need to unwind at night, I light it. It has lasted all year and the scent is heavenly.

Google Photos

Yes, I know I have been hiding under a rock until 2020. I got a new computer and set up Google Photos back in May and it has been a game-changer. I used to spend hours looking for photos. Now, I have a third backup to my backups and I can easily type a word in and find a photo in seconds. GAME CHANGER

Anthropologie Gold Mirror

When I moved from my apartment earlier this year, I sold my gold Anthropologie mirror that I loved so much. The ceilings are higher in the new place and it just didn’t fit. I saved up and put the money aside for when the mirror went on sale. It was worth the wait. It looks amazing and really pulls the whole room together.

Apple Airpods

I resisted until now, but they are AMAZING. They went on sale this year and I grabbed them. I don’t have the noise-canceling ones which I wish I splurged for. These are so perfect for listening to podcasts or music while I work or when I can’t fall asleep at night.

Madewell Sneakers

In years past, I wouldn’t have walked around Paris in sneakers. The cool French girls brought it back and I couldn’t be happier. Sézane has a version as well that is cute. I love my Madewell sneakers and I have two pairs. I like them nice and white so I will snatch up a pair on sale before my first trip to Paris in 2021. These are great for walking around your neighborhood or Paris and will be considered French girl chic.

Cabot Spicy Habanero Cheese

(this is a staple in my fridge and so addicting) You can find this at your local Whole Foods. It is SPICY, a little goes a long way. I usually put it in my eggs or on turkey sandwiches. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Gaspard Sweater from Sézane

Yes, we spent 80% of this year at home but I still dressed up. This Sézane sweater is a French girl staple and I made the investment in a second one this year as a gift to myself. I own the pink and black now. You can wear it two ways and it is great for keeping warm in the Summer at night or a zoom meeting/date.

Mahabis Slippers

I have owned these slippers for years but I have gotten more use out of them in 2020 than any other year. They are so comfortable and held up well. I reach for them in the morning before I get my coffee.

The Queen’s Gambit.

I have never played chess or had the desire. But I loved every second of The Queen’s Gambit. It was a great escape from 2020 and really enjoyable. I encouraged my family to watch it and they loved it too.

Le Creuset Dutch Oven

I reach for my Le Creuset Dutch Oven more than almost anything else in the kitchen. I use it for sauces, bread, and soups. It was worth the investment.

Dark chocolate almonds.

Specifically from the bins at Whole Foods. I bought a good amount of these. Let’s say a small investment back in March of 2020 and slowly made my way through the stash. I don’t go to Whole Foods as often as I used to, but this is always something I bring home.

My Boll and Branch Bed

I invested in new sheets with the new place and I couldn’t love my bed more. I gifted a set of the sheets to my sister and brother in law for the holidays.

Facetime with my niece

This has been a challenging year for all of us. It has been a year since I have seen my family. I am grateful my niece enjoys Facetime with me. She loves to grab the phone and take me into her room to talk and play. It is hard to hang up with her! I can’t wait until we are reunited in 2021.

Matching Pajamas

This has always been a favorite for me, but I have so many more pairs to choose from. This brings me joy and definitely makes the list of 2020.

Biscotti Recipe

This has been a family favorite since I started making them earlier this year. Every time my dad gets low, he calls for a refill. I am happy something so simple can bring so much joy.

  3. 2020 is definitely the year of the candle! And the year of the comfy pants, as defined by pants with an elastic waistband & no zipper.

    • Yes, Maggie! I am all about comfy pants and a candle. We have to do whatever we need to to stay safe and happy at home. Happy Holidays. xo
