Links I Love Week 1

Bonne Année! It’s good to be back writing again. I can’t say it was writer’s block but I definitely had a bit of trouble getting back in the groove after our honeymoon. It was the first time I truly shut down since I can remember. I was laid off in 2008 and have been pushing hard ever since and have never completely shut down. Over the Christmas/New Year’s/ Wedding break I read 4 books in one week, slept a ton, ate, napped, did yoga, and hung out with my husband. It was exactly what I needed and you can understand why it was hard to jump-start work again.

If you are on the newsletter list, you know I am not in Chicago. I took a quick trip to Paris and I will be here until the end of the week. It feels surreal being back with touches of Christmas all over the city. Paris is busy and full of life, with shoppers, and tourists roaming the city. I was fooled into thinking I was in for a quiet week.

There is a lot to fill you in on why I am in Paris and what my agenda is. I will share that in a post later this week. So stay tuned! Plus, I am going to need your help on a project.

Grab your coffee and croissants and join me for the first links I love of the year. If you are new around here, this is my weekly roundup of favorite links to inspire and teach you. I cover everything from fashion, beauty, world events, and lots of Paris news updates and openings.

Hermès brings Parisian charm to New York City

The best thing I did this year was going to Paris alone via Vogue. This is a great read for mothers and singles. It is so important to spend time alone.

LAKE Pajamas has their Valentine’s Day pajamas up now and they sell out fast. I bought these last year and they were gone in a flash. I have them in red and bought my niece a matching pair.

52 acts of kindness: how to spread joy and kindness in every week of 2023

I spent the day after New Year’s rearranging, cleaning up the house, and preparing it for 2023. I moved some art which makes room for a floor-length mirror in a hallway. I have my eye on this one. (waiting for a sale) I got a new laptop since mine was not functional towards the end of the year and I was struggling when I traveled. I swapped out my desk for this white one which really makes the office space look clean and fresh. We also picked up new pillows at West Elm for a refresh of our front room including this one, this one, and this one

My husband and I got a lovely surprise wedding gift with our names. I can’t wait to use this Eiffel Tower cutting board/cheese board

6 ways to strengthen your relationships in 2023

This is how all the French girls are wearing their hair now according to Vogue.

Vacation heros included this sweater which I surprisingly wore multiple times in the evening, swimsuit, and sunscreen which I reapplied often.

I am working on adding art above the new desk so I purchased these frames. I am leaning towards all black and whites for now and can always switch them out later. Henri got these Valentine’s Day-themed milk bones

It’s always interesting to see the new year’s travel trends. Here are the 17 Travel Trends You’ll See in 2023 According to Condé Nast Traveler

I ended up wearing this dress for our rehearsal dinner and loved it so much that I packed it for Paris. This is the first time I have disagreed with the reviews. The material wasn’t amazing but it looked great and photographed well. It is on sale in all sizes. I ordered a size 6. It seems some of the reviews say to size up. For the price, you can order two and return one.

Hotels to book in 2023. I have my eye on the Paris hotel that has private terraces with Eiffel Tower views opening soon.

I read four books over the break in no specific genre, I just collected them and packed them over a few weeks. Verity blew my mind with the extra chapter. Then She was Gone which was also a bit crazy and while some of it was predictable I didn’t guess the whole ending. It Begins With Us which was an extension of It Ends with Us and something totally different which is usually my go-to WWII books The Sweetness of Forgetting was so touching and out of all the characters in the four books they will stick with me the most.

  1. Two things: your wedding picture is beautiful. Is it a vintage dress?
And Wednesday is soldes day! I’m holding out for a black 6 ply turtleneck from Eric BOMPARD. It’s already reduced in some colors, but not black.I already have the same sweater in at least 8 colors, but not black.
So, this used to be my fave time in Paris. It’s really fun to look around and see some new things. We will be there soon, Just got a new credit card with sign on of enough miles for round trip bus class.
Have a safe trip. There’s an adorable pet shop on the block behind BHV.
