The city of Paris becomes alive the first day of warm weather. Café chairs line up alongside St Germain de Près, the Marais, Montmartre, and Canal St Martin. The city stays pretty active even in the colder months but you can immediately feel a change and a buzz around the city. Pops of pink fill the city between cherry blossoms and the beginning of rosé season. The two go hand and hand.
The typical notes in a rosé are red fruit (like strawberries or raspberries), flowers (you guessed it, roses), citrus, and melon. The colors vary on a spectrum; you can find lighter pinks like the inside of a strawberry or grapefruit, to darker pinks like those of a red bell pepper or the juice of a blackberry. When in doubt about picking a rosé, try one from Provence. Provence is a region in the southeast of France that is famous for lavender fields, landscapes and small towns that inspired some of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous works, and ancient ruins from the Roman Empire. The region also happens to produce some of the most famously delicious rosé in the world.
Rosé can be paired with cheese, seafood, and salads. Try a sparkling rosé and pair it with desserts. You can’t go wrong with a tarte framboise!
