Links I Love Week 52: Year 2025

This week was filled with exciting surprises. An event was confirmed for Paris in January. I can’t wait to share more details on this one. I got a book cover for Slow Horses in Germany. This was a project I had an email about earlier in the year, and I’d forgotten about it until the book arrived at my doorstep. We have been searching for an entryway cabinet for years, and I think we have found one! Another antique, discovered at Ashley and Sloane.

  1. Just received your book, Paris Every Day. I was struck by your background observations along with its history. Would it be possible to do a historic essay/book on Haussmann flats? The Cité Napoléon, alongside opulent Napoleon III Apartments—do they exist today—if so, could a few be photographed?

Have always been fascinated by the Haussmann flats—their uniformity from the Napoleonic Era. Also some history – why wasn’t Paris destroyed in WW II? History tells us Hitler had planned to have Paris destroyed, deputed Dietrich Hugo Hermann von Choltitz, the Military Governor of Paris turn it into “scorched earth.” But he didn’t—with several not-very-plausible reasons given.

Received Paris Every Day from Santa! It has been picked up more than your recommended amount—four times a year—and I haven’t had it for more than two days! Would it be possible to do a historic essay/book on Haussmann flats? The Cité Napoléon, alongside opulent Napoleon III Apartments—do they exist today—if so, could a few be photographed? Thanks!

  2. I am a relatively new subscriber but wanted to let you know how much I enjoy this weekly email. I have been fortunate to visit Paris numerous times and love it more with each trip. Your blog allows me to live vicariously in between trips. Congratulations on the publication of your book and have a wonderful holiday season.
