Paris Diaries : Autumn No Eleven

If you read the last Paris Diaries Post you will know that I spent 24 hours in Bordeaux. It was short and sweet and I wish I had more time to explore. My friends took me around by foot and we walked up and down the streets. The streets are closed off to cars which was an added perk. I wish Paris was like this. I wish I had a bike to move around Bordeaux, maybe next time!

The center of town where we started was built around the same time as Place de la Concorde in Paris so you will find a similarity in the architecture.

I get migraines from red wine so I was hesitant to try the Bordeaux wine but I was happy to find there were some great white options too.

The weather was much warmer than Paris, our weather was in the 80’s F during my visit. The city was full of people out and about enjoying the weekend in the city.

We stopped for more canelƩs and to people watch a bit in the center of the city.

There was a color palate in Bordeaux of neutrals like Paris but some of the buildings were very dirty next to cleaner buildings. You can see the difference in this photo the black vs the limestone. I loved the copper lights that hung throughout the city. This was a unique design touch that really added charm to the city.

In the center of the city we found a 3D model for the blind. If you read “All The Light We Cannot See” this may spark your memory from the 3D models in the book. It brought goosebumps to my body to see and touch this in France. As I turned behind me there was a group of blind people meeting nearby.

If I am invited back to Bordeaux again I would jump at the chance. I loved the mix between the city and country on this visit. There is still a lot more to explore and this is only just the beginning. Do have a favorite place outside of Paris?

  1. Ages ago we had a French exchange student from Versailles staying with us. We decided to take him to see the Wild West and set off in a giant camper. He spoke no English and we spoke no French. As a mom I was desperate to communicate with him. When we arrived in Monument Valley in total darkness, I heard French being spoken under our window. I sent him outside thinking maybe they could translate for me as soon as I finished cleaning up. He came back in minutes. I looked at him questioningly, thinking, "What did they say?" His response was, "Ach, they are from Bordeaux!"

    • This is so cute! What a great memory! Did you enjoy having an exchange student? Do you still keep in touch?
