What I am Packing for Paris in September 2026
Paris in the fall is one of my absolute favorite times to visit. The crisp air in the mornings, the golden light in the afternoon, and the leaves crunching under my feet as I walk through the Parisian parks. September has a magical buzz in the air. The weather can be a mixture of rainy days and warm afternoons. I am preparing for a week in Paris in late September, leading into October and the start of Fashion Week. Here is what I am packing for Paris in September 20206.

Tips for Packing for Paris in September
Light layers are key to keeping warm while spending a day out in Paris. I love a few good simple tanks and these T-shirts (a new Paris discovery) to wear under sweaters. Lightweight knits make great layering pieces. This sweater from Frame and this one from Gerard Darel are both short-sleeved and are ones I am packing this September. My colors this fall are a mix of neutral colors and a few pops of red, my signature to mix and match for different outfits.
You can always throw a sweater over your shoulders if it gets too warm.
Pants and Jeans for Paris in the Fall
Frame jeans fit me super well, and I have packed two favorites that go with every blouse and knit sweater. A pair of wide-leg jeans in a dark wash and a pin-tuck style that is a little dressier. I have also packed a pair of black pants to wear with booties and a blouse for an evening out. Anything really goes in Paris when it comes to denim styles these days. I have seen it all! You can absolutely pack a pair of straight-leg jeans if wide-leg aren’t a good option for you. I prefer dark denim over light because it is easier to dress up.
Shoes for Paris in September
Comfortable walking shoes are an absolute must! I typically walk 15-20k steps per day going from meetings and seeing friends. My preferred way to get around Paris is on foot whenever possible. The metro and car are also great options if you’re planning your own Paris trip. I love the ballet flats by Margaux and will be packing a pair for this trip. The Demi flat is the one I pack most often, but I am leaning towards these chocolate brown Pascale flats. French women wear sneakers like the Samba and the Spezial Handball style all over the streets of Paris. I am packing these New Balance for the plane and long walks through the gardens. For dressier evenings and outfits, I am packing these ankle boots from Sarah Flint.
Parts of Paris like the Marais and Montmartre have cobblestone streets, and high heels aren’t the most ideal for walking. Ballet flats or a chunky-heel boot are much more practical.
The Best Bags for Paris
I love a good crossbody bag for the evening. It is important to have a bag that has a zipper or closure to keep your belongings safe. While out and about during the day, I typically use a Cuyana top zip tote for my day bag to fit my travel umbrella, a notebook, and my camera. As a travel photographer, I need to have my camera with me throughout the day. I never know what hidden gems will catch my eye. If you are traveling to Paris as a tourist and just want to snap some iPhone photos, a smaller bag works great! Restaurants and cafés have limited space, and carrying large bags isn’t ideal. I packed this bag for the evenings.
Outfit Ideas for Paris in September
My agenda is packed between museum visits and a Seine boat tour. That means I need a variety of outfits. Packing a few blouses, sweaters, and denim to mix and match for multiple outfits. This time around, I planned ahead (which isn’t always the case), tried on each look, and made sure I had the right shoes and accessories. In the past, I ran short on time and threw a lot of random pieces into my suitcase. It doesn’t always work out in my favor, and sometimes a random bulky piece takes up way too much room, and I never wear it. Plan ahead! It truly is a game changer.
Jackets for Paris in September
I am keeping an eye on the weather, and it is colder in the mornings and evenings, with peak sun in the afternoon. A trench coat is a great extra layer. Parisian women are wearing this Sézane coat in a variety of colors. I am still deciding between the classic trench coat or this new green one I just ordered.
Expect to shed layers on warmer days and layer up on cooler ones. Parisian style always includes a scarf as an accessory; you can pack one like I plan to do, or you can pick one up as a souvenir.
A Little Black Dress for Evenings Out
I always love packing a little black dress to complete my Parisian chic outfits. This time around, I am packing this L’Agence blazer and black slip dress to pair with black booties for the Seine cruise and dinner. We go straight to dinner, and I know it will be a little chilly on the water. *Both items were gifted by the brand.
A midi skirt and a leather jacket with a t-shirt or blouse with lace detail is also a great date night or evening idea.
Accessories I am Packing for Paris this September
The Paris weather forecast right now is a mix of sunny days and a little rain. A pair of sunglasses is a non-negotiable for me. I have been using my readers more and more and recently got a pair of sunglass readers from Warby Parker. These readers will also be making it with me to Paris. A small umbrella is always important this time of year. I would invest in a good, sturdy one and not risk buying one off the streets of Paris or at a pharmacy. Trust me, they will not be the same quality.
