Where to Find a Drink in the First Arrondissement

Let’s face it, we have all been there. You spend a little (or a lot) time at the Louvre or in The Tuileries and you want to grab a glass of wine to people watch or maybe a coffee to fight jet lag. What originally started as a quick list of 5 spots turned into 10. You can save the google maps for your next trip to Paris.  Here is my list of Where to Find a Drink in the First Arrondissement which I would share with friends and now I am sharing with all of you to make your Paris trip better.

Where to Grab a Drink/Cocktail:

cafe nemours paris france

Le Nemours Located just outside the Louvre close to Palais Royal. On Sundays there is a string quartet that plays in the courtyard across from the terrace.

Le Meurice Bar 228 It is a little more upscale. If you are looking for something inside on a rainy or cold day in Paris this is your spot. I have had dessert and champagne here before and the service is fantastic.

The Café Marly is located under the Richelieu Wing of the The Louvre. You can sip a glass of wine and watch the sunset from your seat.

Verjus bar á vins is tucked away behind Palais Royal. I had a little trouble finding it the first time but that was before google maps. The space is small but it is worth the visit. I would arrive at opening to secure a seat. They do offer small bites.

Willi’s Wine Bar is not too far from Verjus and they accept online reservations. You can find an occasional seat at the bar. They offer 3 courses at the bar at 3pm with a glass of wine for 16.90 euros.  Worth a try!

The Lounge Bar at Le Lulli My favorite boutique hotel tucked away just steps from the Louvre is Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal. You can grab a cocktail here for an intimate meeting spot. The bartenders can create custom cocktails and there is also a champagne bar.

Le Fumoir This is my go to spot with friends if we are meeting near the Louvre. You can sit outside on a warm day and sip rosé or enjoy a cozy spot inside.

Coffee Spots/Hot Chocolate

Angelina Hot Chocolate My first trip to Paris I visited the Louvre. This was before we had smart phones back in 2003. My friends mentioned the hot chocolate at Angelina but we couldn’t find the location. We spent way too much time in the cold searching for the location we gave up. We were so close! I have been back a few time since. You can sit in the dining room or get it for takeaway and walk The Tuileries.

Telescope is on one of my old streets Rue Villedo. The coffee shop is tucked away on a very small side street but it is worth the visit. There is a good udon spot right next door if you need a spot for lunch/dinner.

Claus Paris is a great place to start your day before hitting the museums. You can grab a coffee and pastry to take away or dine inside. They have a great brunch but I recommend booking a reservation for weekend brunch. It is packed during Fashion week. I love their madeleines and cakes.

Café Kitsuné take a walk through Palais Royal just behind the Louvre. You can grab a coffee for takeaway or stand inside. In the warmer months, they do have tables outside.
