“Amélie” is whimsical, heartwarming, hilarious, and one of our most favorite movies about life in Paris. This romantic comedy (called “Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain” in French, but simply called “Amélie” in English) takes place primarily in Montmartre, as a young woman named Amélie Poulain decides to start living more adventurously. She begins secretly trying to improve the lives of the people around her. Whether it’s standing up to bullies, becoming good friends with her neighbor, or trying to reunite lost loves, Amélie and her quirky way of doing things will make you smile. This is a French film about friendships, romance, magic, and the pursuit of a more interesting life, and it is beloved by people around the world; it was even nominated for five Academy Awards.
